Lost fin screw for foamie

Postby Joss » Sat Sep 15, 2018 5:11 pm

Hi guys - I recently bought a second hand foam surfboard (mainly for when I’m struggling and need a confidence boost!)

It’s a decent board - very solid with reinforced foam round the edge so should last me a while. Only annoying thing is that one of the plastic fin screws is missing :( . I’ve been trying to look online for one but the only thing I can find is a package which includes the fins as well.

They’re such cheap looking things but it looks like I have to pay a fair bit to get a spare. I wondered if anyone could suggest where I could get hold of one or, better still, whether some kind person out there may have a broken foamie with a spare screw available?!

If you can help that’d be awesome. No worries if not though

Thanks

Joss

Have look, and see if the screw is similar to the screw for attaching a leash on a bodyboard, if it is, no need to buy fins and all.
Good luck! :D

Thanks - it’s actually roughly an inch and a half long black plastic thing which you unscrew with a coin or similar flat object. Here’s a pic of one of the others... Does anyone have a spare one which they no longer need?

I’ve actually only just realised that the screw had in fact broken off in the fin! Luckily I managed to get the remains of it out by drilling in to it then sticking a screw inside the whole with some gorilla glue then later I could twist it out :ninja:

Go to your local surfshop and see if they sell "bodyboard leash plugs". Should cost about $2 or $3 usd.

After a big swell check out the beach dumpster/trash cans for broken wavestorms and take the plug screw out of them with a quarter.

Thanks guys

Yeah in the end I ordered some cheap leash screws as you suggested- I just have to hope that they are the same size. They look very similar so I’m hoping that they’re pretty standard size

If those don't fit, then I would just take your plug down to Home Depot or some hardware store and buy a metal screw that fits the plug along with a rubber washer and you're off to the beach.

Quick Amazon search led to this (thought I had seen them before)-
https://www.amazon.com/SBBC-Surfboard-P ... 01ICNRCRA/

You might be able to find a smaller quantity for cheaper.

Thanks for the extra tips- I’ve ordered a UK one (as I’m in London) which should get here soon. That pack did look ideal though so I should’ve probably looked in to overseas orders- oh well. Thanks again
