How difficult will this change in width be?

Postby Pj0915 » Thu Aug 02, 2018 7:02 pm

My current short board is 5’10 x 19’. I’m looking for a new board for the winter and I found a used one I like but the dimensions aren’t 5’11 x 18 5/8. Would this hoard be noticeably harder to ride?

Well, it depends on the outline of the board. 3/8 inch of itself is very little. But the width is just the widest point of the board. The board might have a very curved outline or a straight outline, or wide point forward or back. Thickness is also relevent

In other words: width is one of about 15 factors to take into account. you cant make any decisions based just on that.

1) Same shaper and model ? If not, then YES.
2) Same Tail, Rail, Bottom contours, Rocker ? If not, then YES.
3) Are you looking for a "step up" board for larger winter waves ? If Yes, then this isn't the right board for that.
4) Are you a "good" surfer ? If Yes, then NO problem, because good surfers can ride anything.
