Can't insert fin in Pope Bisect board

I'm in the US but this is a general question/problem. I surfed mostly in US but also in NZ and UK (Wales). A few years ago I bought a "bisect" travel board 9'6" but I never really planned to travel with it. It was just more convenient to have a 2 piece board that would go in my car once my rear seats were folded down. I have an 8 ft bisect travel board but it's a little too small for me.

Anyway, I never even looked at the 9'6" until a year ago. Waves are not great on the East Coast (North Carolina) which is one reason I never took it out. When I finally did look at the board, I couldn't figure out how to insert the screw and plate to hold the fin down. It's been so long that I can't return the board. And I didn't want to go back to where I bought it because the guy I bought it from was a little hard to deal with.

I've actually worked on boards, doing minor repairs and I'm familar with different types of boards and fins. I'm going to look at the board again soon to see if I can figure this out. I just wonder if anyone has had a similar problem. I'm going to try to find a local shaper who could modify the fin box so the screw can go in. However, there aren't many shapers here compared to California where I used to live.

Is your bisect a Wayne Rich Model?
I found no problems with any of the varied fins centre fin, post a picture in case it’s different from mine and we will make comparisons.
I found the original fin a bit of a brute with too long a base for my surfing, FCS, Fluid foils and true Ames work well with their standard square nut and screw system.!
Check back let’s get it fixed for you :D

Have you ever tried to put the fin in prior? Sometimes in the making of a board resin gets in the fin box and blocks the fin or the pin or both. Or perhaps in storage something got stuck in that groove? If you just forgot how to do it the watch this

I don't think there is anything special about the fins on that board. You might want to look at this video for a refresher on the Pope Bisect assembly.

Old man’s video is the money shot! No need to repeat other than the Float a Pope fin that is usually sent with the board is just ridiculously huge!
I enjoy my Bisect! :D

Not so far fetched, but is the Tab still in the Insert Slot ? I had to pop those off many a times when I worked in a surf shop.
