Wheeled Longboard Travel Bags - too heavy ?

Postby Oldie » Fri Dec 08, 2017 12:06 pm

Hi all,

for flying with long boards, so far we used a nonwheeled double longboard bag, but that is quite difficult to handle at the airport. Upright on a trolley it is often too high, and for lying it square down on the trolley you most of the time don't have the place. So I was considering a wheeled bag, either the 9.2 FCS Double bag or the 9.6 O&E GTS bag, which I like a lot as it is quite robust and has the thickest padding.

However, at 8 and 8.7kg, they are very heavy, while an unwheeled FCS Double bag is less than 4kg. The airline I mostly fly with has no specific lengt or weight restrictions, but I wonder whether that additional weight does not create too many issues.

Does anyone have experiences in travelling with such long and heavy wheeled bags?

Had one of those for two boards used it a couple of time but it was like manouvering down tight narrow alleys, with a semitrailer.
The shoulder carry was a little easier......... still clears a wide distance around me.
the extra weight is an issue when you have strict compliance at check in.
