Surfing Waves

Turns out the shop buys them in April just for rental and sells them at the end of September. They do that every single year. Hence they look like brand new to me. $200 for the 7'6 and $250 for the longboard which is a bargain!

I rode both of them a few times and I really enjoyed them. The longboard glide graciously through the water and the 7'6 has enough rocker + volume for me to paddle for faster and steeper waves. The only bit that I'm kinda worried is that the longboard might have none standard fins which means if I ever break them, it will be hard to replace.

So what do you guys think about the Three palms, it's the first time that I hear from them. It rides nicely and the board feels solid and durable so I'm hoping it is not a some cheap tacky board made from a sweat shop. I'm not too worried about the NSP as it will just be a shoredump/beater board for me to trash around, they are good for beginners.

The 7'6" NSP Fun is very similar to the 7'10" NSP Fun I bought my wife. So I know it's made good and works well. Later, like way down the line, try putting in FCS MR-TX fins. It is big fins up front and a small trailer in the middle, board flies with those. Her's came with a tail pad already from the factory. I would put one on yours especially for cold weather in boots.

The 9'0" three palms is made in the same factory as the NSP, so the fin box should be standard. Thus you should be able to fit any single fin. But that's the dilemma, do you want to ride a single fin ? You seem to be the more rip and shred mindset. Plus it's a sponge deck with hard rails.

But for those prices, i would buy them. ( how you gonna get either them on the train ? )

Oh I really didn't know that smaller fin in the middle makes the board faster. Last week I saw a 7'6 with a smaller fin so I thought they must have broke the fin and just put a non matching fin into the box.

I'm not used to the tail pad yet plus with boots, I tend not to need as much wax as it gives me good grip already. I'll try it without a pad for now and see.

About shred/rip, it's something that I hope that I would be able to do but I really don't think I surf enough to be able to do that. I'm happy just riding along the wall for as far as possible. I removed the side fins on my longboard. I enjoy the ride more and weird enough, I find that I can trim the wave easier.

Undecided on what I'll do with the longboard yet. Rachelle from here brings her 8'6 longboard on the train. I'm thinking, if she can do it. Then I should too! But most likely what I'll do is rent the board space for the longboard during summer and travel with the 7'6.

NO.....no no. You have to look at the board as a whole and how/where you can put that board on the wave. Say each of the 3 thruster fin were 33.333% of a total of 100. The twin-stabi set up would move the numbers around 40/40 for the 2 front fins and 20 for the center trailer, which still adds up to 100. You still get the volume to hold into the wave but you get a bit of slide action from the tail, which helps you to put it into tight sections. The board doesn't go faster, it slides easier to points on the wave that are more peaky, steeper to let be in the juice of the wave.

Yeah, riding a single teaches you to work more with the wave. It helps you develop sense of trim/glide. Sometimes side bites aren't needed in smaller waves.
