Surfing Waves

Hey guys! I need opinions on this one. I bought a board last week which is the Bangarang 6'4", 19,5" and 2,625 thick.
I'm going to sri lanka then indonesia for a few months. I always wanted to surf a single fin since i love my single longboard so much. The possibility to switch to quad or 2+1 was conforting too..
Lanka waves a pretty mellow, almost longboardy-ish and indo is indo.
Theyre was a 6'6 and 6'8" do you think i should of bought it a bit bigger, i think its still possible to exchange..
the only thing that i saw after is that 19,5 is pretty narrow , no? Im 6'0 and 175pounds.

Have you ever tried to use a Swiss Army knife, can do somethings quite well and other things it can do as a make do!
How well do you surf on the long board you love?
You want to surf a single fin, but want all the other fin combinations available. There is no one board shape or style fits all only advertising.
No short board paddles like a longboard only better than a slower shortboard.
Quads surf so differently from 2+1s or singles. The narrowness too would be a concern.
It will all come down to how well you surf now, and the jump down in size from whatever your longboard was.
There will be a huge difference on speed of swell between Sri Lanka and Indonesia, have you surfed either before?
A lot of variables but Sri Lanka first is a good tuning program!

Just curious though, why ask whether a board is suitable after you buy it, surely advice before would be the way to go!

I forgot to say that i have a fish which is 6'0 by 20 1/4 and 2,5 so im used to shortboards, i just wanted something more "flowy" i love the board its not wether i should or not but after a week i just tought: maybe this type of board is made to be riden bigger (mid lenght) only reason a took the 6'4" was the ability to dick dive easier. I was wondering if any had ridden theses types and what they prefered. Thx for ur words!!

Bigger the board more flowy the riding style will be....entirely up to you, but personally I like bigger, wider and thicker for single fins so that it really will be flowy.

"indo" is a big place....Jawa Timur, Jawa Selatan, Sumetra, Sumbawa, Lombok or here in Bali......there are a lot of different waves and conditions vary at those different waves so while they can be big, fast and hollow, there are slower and smaller days and more muted breaks as well so the common perception of the board best for "Indo", narrowish rounded pin with a fair amount of rocker, is a good shape for here, but so is a longboard, or a nose rider, or a midsize single, or a squash thruster, or a mini mal.....point I'm trying to make is that unless you really charge, get a board that you are comfortable with riding the conditions that you are comfortable in and like to ride. Doesn't matter if that is the Goldy, Indo, Sri Lanka or wherever......you ought to know what size waves you can handle, then buy a board to enjoy them, regardless of their location. And the idea with quivers is that one size does not fit all, so while you may want to consider for your travel board a stick that can handle the widest range of conditions, ideally you can have different boards for different conditions and moods (OMS will disagree with me heartily but that's how I roll.... ).

Tomorrow I'm going out on dawn patrol (every day but who's counting).....I just prepped my board for tomorrow.....rode a squash tail thruster today and was undergunned even with drivey rakey fin setup, and will go to the same break with almost the same conditions (a little less hollow and a little bigger probably) tomorrow morning........I feel like riding my 8'2" fungun ,set up with a 2+1 as the spot was big (1.5-2OH) & super fast/sectiony today and I missed connecting if I wasn't superlative from the jump.....tomorrow, - bigger board, earlier in, more speed, making sections = good times!

Anyway to address your question.....get a bigger board if it is a single......you'll get a little more wiggle out of it.

Looked at the board page.....shape like that for your size I'd say a 6'10-7'2" would be sweet....you won't need shorter since you can't get too radical with a plan shape like that....flowy and cruisy but still be able to hit the lip.
