Surfing Waves

Hey guys, I'm new to surfing and have recently purchased a softboard, it was relatively cheap as the outer plastic is peeling, I have attached a photograph. I just wondered if someone knew how to repair the skin that is peeling away from the board. Thanks so much for your comments.......

Are there any holes in the skin that might let in water or does it feel like there is water under the peeling bits (ie the board part feels soft and squishy if you press on it)

The slick skin was heat laminated to EPP ( expanded polypropylene) core. That EPP layer is waterproof, so it should be fine.

What you should do is depending how deep your de-lamination is.

From your pic it looks like the loose part is thin and wavy, and only the outer layer of a deeper skin. I could be wrong.
You might want to re apply the loose outer layer tight down to the board or
just cut the loose part off only "IF" the deeper part will still be water tight.

I have found that eventually water always gets in to a soft board, you can seal up as many holes you can with epoxy, silicone or melted hot glue sticks.

When it comes to de lams, try to get the epoxy (because it will cure even if it is closed off to air) into the clean /dry cavity of the de-lam, then use a vacuum bag to suck the skin tight to the board and removes any excess bond. Cheap vacuum storage bags can be found in the home storage departments of discount stores, adapt it for the size of your board.

If all that is not worth it for you, you can just cut off all the loose de lam areas and just cover the area with vinyl tape as best you can and just surf it like that till you need to re apply some new tape.
