Surfing Waves

Couple of weeks ago I rented a 7'6. I think it was a NSP funboard. I really had a lot of fun and I should've taken a photo of it. I'm thinking of buying one. The board felt very different to other epoxy boards that I've ridden in the past. When I popup on the board, I can feel the board compresses and that it had a springy feel. My hands actually dips in a little when I pop up. At first I thought this isn't good, I'm going to break the board but turns out it is a lot stronger than I thought.

Is EPS the reason why the board felt like it was being compressed and springy?

I think it's more about the 'skin' layers/materials. I've got some EPS boards that all feel different, though strong and ding resistant.
I know Firewire just introduced a new tech called Helium which they say has a softer more springy feel then their so populair FST. Their marketing even speaks of "the new deck skin material creates shallow foot-wells which enhance your connection to your board." I don't know about that though..

What color was the board ? All blue ? White with stripes ? Reason being there's a difference with the Elements line and the E2 and E+ construction. I have a 6'4" Elements NSP Fish ( blue ) and I also have a 6'4" NSP Fish ( orange ) that's over 10 years old. Not a single ding or shatter. What I can say there is more "give" ( and are a tad bit lighter ) with the newer Elements compared to the older NSP.

The board looked like this or it might be this one. I'm not really sure. Next time when I go to the beach I'm planning to go check out the board again.


There's also a chance that it could be a BIC, cos I recall that when renting the board. The surf was perfect, shoulder and light offshore winds. I was annoyed that I had to rent a cheap terrible board, which changed my mind when I caught the first wave.

I never liked the BIC or the NSP funboards as the ones that I rented were normally very heavy and thick like a log. But I actually liked this one much more than the Torq 7'6.
