Surfing Waves

So I took a board to my shop that had a cracked fin box to get repaired and have a new FCS 1 inbox installed about a week ago....I got it back only to find when I went to go surf it that the fin did not fit into the new box because it seemed that some resin had gotten into the wells and the fin did not fit in because of that. I tried to file and chip the resin out gently to no avail; in the process the file slipped and I punched a small hole into the board....insult to injury - I set the board aside and took it back to the shop for them to fix it.

I got there and they took a look and apologised then told me that if I waited 15 MINUTES they would have it ready. Incredulous, I looked around in nearby shops and went back 20 minutes later where they had the board waiting....ding was fixed and the finbox was clear and fit a fin perfectly. The fix was perfect and so fast that it leads me to the question............



My question is HOW did they do the fix so fast? Is there a solvent that will remove resin? How would they fix a 3mm hole puncture so fast as well? It was totally dry and ready to go. What kind of magic do they have going on at Naruki?

Dremel tool?
Maybe sun cure like but pro grade uv curing resin? Curing the resin is the most time consuming part not sanding or glassing.
Wish my fin plug job would be that quick. I expect that to take my shop the usual 7-10 days...

At our shop,If you had a single FCS plug push ( not with glass and foam ripped out ) if you paid the Emergency Repair fee, our repair guy would stop what he was doing, drive a few blocks to our shop, do the repair, bring the board back ready to go in less than 1 hour. ( Had to be sunny and not a raining day or late afternoon since he used UV resin )

Just ask them. I usually come up with a theory about how they did something (I'm usually wrong), but repair guys often love to show you how it all came together, especially when they see that you're the type to get in and do things yourself.

A lot of repair stuff is "trade secrets". And the worst thing when repairing a board, bike or car is someone watching over you.

I'm friendly with the owner....we sometimes meet up in the lineup on dawn patrols and we'll surf together 'till time to go to work. We talk, laugh and joke about a lot of things......one time I asked him a question about what solvent he would use to take off a tail pad and get all of the gunk off the board without scraping like crazy and denting the tail......his whole face changed and he pointed to an unmarked bottle in the corner and said "that" and walked into the back of the shop. That was about 2 years ago.....I never asked him anything again like that and it's all good.
