Are my boards ruined?

I was on the highway with three boards strapped to the roof rack of a friends car. Two bungee cords snapped at once and they fell off with some additional rope keeping them from flying away. Like the subject says, are my boards ruined? I've never had a board repaired I don't even know the first thing about it.

OMG! I would cry, poor boards they suffered so much. That can be repaired but it's going to alter the weight of the board. If you are a newbie you may not notice it. It's quite an extensive repair so if your board is new then it would be much better to have a professional repair it however that may cost a bit.

Like OMS said, repairable but they might never be quite the same again

But if you've got a good ding-fixer (and that really is an impressive ding), you hopefully won't notice the difference, other than to your pride

Not a cheap ding to fix that one - where are you? Around here in Australia, I reckon I'd be looking at about $100 per board to get that fixed, maybe a bit less with multiple boards.

I had the same thing happen when my board slipped off the rack riding my moped to the beach. I would not get it "repaired", going to be expensive. I would build up the area with Suncure white filler which is light and sands down easy, then layer over it with regular Suncure that has the fiberglass for strength. Cheap quick route would be to use Ding-putty, but it'll be heavier and not as strong. ( if any of the boards are molded epoxy, then go with ding putty ) Either way, spray over it and color paint pen a cool flame graphic to hide the scar.

Ouch. I'd tell people your board scraped a barnacle encrusted pier piling on a 10 foot day. Anyway, I used to use bungee cords a long time ago to secure my boards. Not a good idea. They don't age well. I think somebody on the forum has mentioned that they should not be used. I guess that's obvious to you now, but maybe it will spare another surfer or traveler some grief.

I'm in Florida, south Florida, so it isnt serious surfing as is. If it cost me 200 for both boards id happily pay it, so long as they're 8/10. My buddy's board was a Greco foam and didnt fare this well and if I let him use my spare one he offered to split the cost. My other choice is go with two new Greco boards, who was awesome and told me theyd set me up with a small discount.

As waikikichan says, you can repair that without too much hassle I think.

Personally I wouldn't use Suncure type products as I don't rate them for a proper repair (at least the ones I've seen anyway).

I would either:

Round off the edges where the board has been flattened against the road with some sandpaper, then put a couple of layers of fibreglass over the area and sand/tidy up as normal. The shape won't be perfect but as it's so near the nose it's not going affect performance.

or

Use some Q-cell filler to build up the shape again so that it matches the undamaged side, then sand to shape and glass over it as above.

Agreed, Q-cell and laminating fiberglass cloth is better. But reading into "I don't even know the first thing", scares me that he'll mix the catalyst wrong and make a bomb. Or get the cloth every where and sand thru the board. Suncure doesn't need mixing. Less to go wrong on the first attempt.

Good point. Maybe best left to a professional in this case, although it would be a pretty easy repair if the OP is willing to watch lots of instructional videos on board repair beforehand, and then take his time during repair.

Should've see me drag my board across 2 lanes to get to the curb.

Easy for a talented repair guy, not that hard and it would come out without any extra weight and look almost the same, Find a local guy cause i saw you are from Fla. I would do it for 25-30 bucks, this is how its done tape off the area 2 inch away and sand/rough this space and clean all dirt from delame area, smooth out edge so you have good contact patch area, glue a piece of foam to it with a hot batch of resen, tape it together tight, let it go off and solid. Reshape nose to fit contour then reglass with 4 oz glass 2 pieces, so far we only added a little resin extra to what the weight you had. Sanding and finishing resin and it might look like new or atleast water tight. With foam not Q-cell (adds weight) I do this for all types of repairs, sand everything and hide it with new top coats.
Sorry i take for granted what i know is possible with resin. I'm in Hawaii, i've done it more than once, nose and tails, came out perf. shops will cost you more cause thats where they will actually make money, thus search out, maybe craigslist surfboard repairs you'll find somebody, all is not lost, except if you start surfing it and it gets water logged under the sticker you put on it! Tell the repair guy how you want it, foam scraps are abbundent so is small piece of glass, good Luck just my 2cents.

I've followed that thread with great interest... I dunno, Uncle Jaffa. Oleg has set the bar so high I'm not sure OP has enough damage to be compared against At least the world's toughest board award goes to NSP since Oleg hasn't posted any new incident

I'd imagine OP has taken care of his ding by now, one way or another.
