Suncure tube dried out..

Postby nystea » Thu Jan 21, 2016 12:31 am

So i bought for the first time a suncurekit for my fibreglass shortboard and it seemed to me that when i opened it for the first time that the tube was dried out abit.. i try to apply what made it difficult but it seems todo the job.. is there anyway i can make it abit more liquid again before apply? I bought the tube back home and im now in some indonesian island with no other surfgear :) thx!

Suncure consists of acrylic. If the consistency is more liquid-like than solid or even loose jelly, you may be successful in reconstituting it with methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). You must do this in dim light. There is a remote possibility acetone will work. But, if more solid and a bit crunchy, then it is not possible to reconstitute it.

Another idea because there are boat supplies in Indonesia. Even if you are remote, it may be possible to obtain conventional polyester resin and catalyst (MEK or methyl ethyl ketone peroxide [MEKP]). The only catch is you cannot use this on an epoxy board. You'll need epoxy resin and hardener (any one of many amines).

Same thing happened to me. I got a solarez repair kit and dual cure resin was hard as a rock. Resin was yellow.

Same thing happened to me twice! I didn't even get to use it, when i needed it was already hard and dry.

I now use Dura Rezn NANO for repairing small dings or cracks. No complaints so far, and the best: "endless shelf life"!
