Fish surfboard

Postby kyleisanoob12 » Mon Dec 07, 2015 2:39 am

Does anyone have any suggestions for fish surfboards? I'll be surfing in small, mushy waves. I don't want to spend too much on a board. I'm 5'5 and 120 pounds. What are some good size and model boards?

If you've spent any time reading any of the other similar threads on "which board for me" you'll see the common theme which is that it's not the board, it's the rider.....

If you want specific help, be more specific....and narrow down your question....modern foiled quad fish vs twinny retro ultra flat rockered fish for instance....otherwise, put yourself into the place of those you are asking....there are a world of boards out there, many of them great.....one thing I would say is maybe a fish is not the best board out there for what you want to do.....I have no idea, but there are a lot of small wave boards.....what do you want to do and what are you able to currently do would be a good starting point. Cheers!

I'm 5'3" 125 pounds and have been using the same 6'4" NSP fish for over 10 years. They are durable, floaty and cheap(er). They do make a 6'6" Fish, but the 6'4" is about the max I can duck dive.

But make sure you know the difference between a real Fish and a swallow tail hybrid.

Coming straight off the bat from my firewire dominator review..I would recommend one of those in maybe 6'2 or 6'4 for smaller mushy waves.
Fast, good paddling, lightweight (get the FST construction for strength) and enough rocker to handle a drop.

Now, seeing as Kyle a) doesn't surf, b) doesn't get to go in the ocean, I'm going to stick my neck out here and say that maybe - just maybe - a fish isn't what you need. :?

Get a stand-up paddleboard - a small one - and go paddle on the lake. It won't be surfing, but you've got a much higher chance of having some fun.
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

haha- based on points A and B (which I didn't know), the hated SUP might be a better option

I dunno....I keep looking at SUPs and starting to think I might want to try it.....if for nothing else everyone who does it regularly has a chiseled physique....must be a heck of a workout.

The chiselled result only happens with flat SUPers. Around my way, anyway, most of the SUPers are either people who are too unfit to actually surf or too lazy to paddle (although, personally, getting a SUP through any size wave is even more effort)

Around here they look like they graduated from the Laird Hamilton program...super fit and thick musculature....
