Second hand surfboard in bali

Postby Apotheosis » Fri Oct 23, 2015 6:07 am

Hey guys, your help would be much appreciated.

I just arrived in Bali and want to surf for about a month. I am pretty much an absolute beginner.

I did some research and am looking for a minimal board, the longer the better. I know a long board would be better, but I am going to have to rely on Taxis for transport.

Anyway I have been looking around and there are very few boards for beginners on the market. I found this one, all I know is that it's 7 foot 6 and made by Byrne. It goes for about 150 us dollars. It seems to be a good compromise and comes with find and leash.

I am not sure about the dings though. I read that yellow coloration is a big problem. What do you guys think?

Thank you very much.

Hey, thanks for your reply. The Facebook group is actually where I found the board of posted above, I reckon it doesn't look too good?

I am staying in Kuta, planning to travel where ever is convenient after I've got a board.

I am looking everywhere for a , but the average max length for a second hand board is like 6 Foot 6. Which is what everybody is trying to sell me.
But even with a 45 litre volume, I figure I am gonna have a bad time as a beginner?

I know that board....belonged to a surf school and I noticed it in lineups a few times (green is my favourite colour)....I'm a member of that Facebook group as well. For a mini mal check out toko cangooes in canguu; he usually has a fair selection of good quality (not snapped and painted) boards at fair prices. That mini has been beat to s$%t no doubt...I wouldn't get it in spite of being a Byrne. There are other boards up there and more cycle through every day.

If you want a board RIGHT NOW just go down to poppies 2...lots of shops down there, they will probably sort you out pretty quick with a secondhand board. Be really careful if a board has been painted; usually means exactly what you don't want it to mean (snapped or creased).

This it Toko Cangooes; he's got that 8ft and the two nine footers behind it still in stock the last time I was out there (a week ago).

I would go for one of the longer boards if you are a raw beginner. You'll have more fun / results. In the meanwhile they have tons of boards for rent at Old Man's / Batu Bolong beach in Canggu and all up and down Kuta Beach up through Seminyak and Brawa. One other place to look is REDZ surfshop; he usually has second hand longboards for sale.

Cheers!

This picture was posted to the group last week; most of those boards are there....the alexander in the middle I bought months ago and I saw the pink one in lineups a few times, but the three long boards were still in stock.
