Surfing Waves

Hi guys,

I've already seen that there are a lot of posts about first board buying, but I still need a quick advice about the size of my board.
About me: I started surfing 2 years ago and I would say I'm an advanced beginner. I have no problem with take off, riding small greens and turning both sides. Still struggling with riding the wall of the wave but I hope I can do that next time I go surfing. I surf on/off like maybe every 2-3monts for a few days.
I'm 178cm/5ft10 and about 84kg/185lbs.
I've already decided to buy a Torq board. Since I've tried riding the NSP last week and it was Ok but not wooohooo
Also I like all the reviews I could read here about Torq surfboards. My only concern is the size.
Should I get a 8' or a 9' Longboard? Or maybe the 7'6" funboard???

I've surfed mostly foamies (8'4" and 7'6" Enaraloo), 8'2 NSP (which was something between a softie and hardboard) and an NSP 7'1" hardboard. The last one was ok but I really didn't like the board and the size either..

I hope you can help me since I'm really not sure. I don't want to go too short too soon and really enjoy every wave I can get

See if you can try the Torq 7'6" funboard a lot of the guys are very happy with them . They will probably chime in and add their thoughts. Your weight and height should be OK on it just a little more effort in the paddling stakes!

I think that's the critical point. I'd say go with the 8ft board. Anything smaller, and it'll feel like your starting from scratch each time, and you'll need a session or two before you're back into it. An 8ft board will help you get the most out of your limited wave time

Torq 7'6 funboard and get in the water every week! the Torq is a lill gem and very very nice to ride and manoeuvre. Do you plan to surf more than you do currently or not? The torq's are durable, stable, dancey little beauties, you're gonna love yours! If you check out my posts you'll see my gorgeous blue/green one.

if you've only been riding a few months I would say to go for the 8'0, or the 7'6 if you're going to be surfing a lot.
It also depends on the waves that your local beaches have?

If they tend to have a bit of grunt then go with the 7'6, if they're very weak go with the 8'0.

I've got the 7'2 and used on everything from 1ft tiny mush to overhead and steep/powerful. I'm only 65kg and can't duckdive mine so it is difficult to get out if it's big and messy but once out, it catches everything and still makes the bigger waves.
I've used and sold over 20 boards in the last year but the torq is the only one which is consistently my 'fun board' and always have a good time.
Feels equally at home on small as it does on large waves.

I currently live in central Germany. So getting out to surf has become quite tricky. I'm really happy to be able to surf for about 20 days this year. I'm going to surf after Christmas for about a week.

I've been thinking about getting the 8' first and then going for the 7'6".

8ft is a good choice.

Dtc knows his stuff for the record I was only saying go 7'6 if you get out every week.

Soo, I've got the Torq 8' in blue. The board is so amazing, I can only recommend it!!! The most amazing surfboard I've ever tried. It's as light as a feather. The paddling, catching waves and turning is easy. I'm super happy to have it! Thanks a lot for you comments and help guys !
