Attempting to fix a pretty damaged board..need advice

Alright so I have me here a long-board that needs fixing. I should probably start off by saying I have never repaired a surfboard before. My local surf shop is quoting me $90 to get it fixed which I think is tad bit much. The box is split and wont hold my skeg in anymore so I need to replace it completely. The left side of the box is completely warped and letting in a bunch of water. So to my understanding to remove the box I just take a razor blade and go around the edges with it and once I've done that how do I get the actual box out? And as for the warped section could I just put some resin over it to close it up or should I completely sand it down first? Also while searching around here I saw some posts of people glassing the fin straight to the board and not even messing with a new box. Is this option easier/better to do? Also it is a polly. Any opinions/help would be much appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,
Diego

If you want to repair this yourself and you haven't tried repairs yet then putting in a new box is going to be difficult. For one thing the glass apears to be delaminated and needs to be cut out and replaced along with the fin box. I suppose another option would be to remove the fin box and fill it in then glass over it and place a glassed in fin which is still a lot of work. My guess is that for the amount of money you make at work it will be cheaper to hire someone else to do it and $90 sounds reasonable to me except you might end up with a board that isn't worth $90. Maybe glue the fin in the box and fill the delamination with resin?
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

$ 90 USD isn't that bad considering all the prep work that needs to be done and if it includes the new box. That whole area that looks like a water stain, is a delaminated. The foam beneath is all waterlogged and brittle. Even if you put a new box in, the rest of the board will give out. Is the stringer on the deck popping up ? If so I wouldn't put more money into it. How about just "bandaid" fix until you can get another used board ? Try filling in the cracked box area and sides with UV-curing Solarez, really goop it on. For the delam lift on the left side, you could razor blade it off and put Solarez all over the area with a old credit card.

But best thing is to take that $90 and old fin and put it into a another used board.
