sanding down a small ding repair

Postby muoh92 » Wed Sep 16, 2015 7:43 pm

I bought a new surfboard a few weeks ago and got a real minor ding on it yesterday. Just to be safe, I used some sun cure on it. I used the sandpaper that came with the ding repair kit I bought, so I don't think it was too strong, but the area surrounding the ding feels really raw now. I was reading that sanding down a board too hard can be problematic, but I tried not to press too hard. I think the fact that the board is new makes the sanded-down area feel more raw than it would if the board were older, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts. How would I know if I sanded down the area too much?

If you are wondering if you sanded too much before applying the patch that would be is you sanded throuogh the good glass. If too much after patching that would be if you exposed the glass. My guess is you need 600 grade wet sand paper and wet sand it smooth.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.
