Apologies for the very nooby question. Going to experiment withe putting down a base layer of wax. This is the stupid question. Do any folk put the layer on a t home-board in bag-bag in/on car-top coat on at beach? Or do most folk wait until they get to the beach to put the base/top coat on. If you see what I mean!!!!

Apologies again
Si

PS I'm aware that some/many folk aren't into the whole base layer thing. Just experimenting.

I base coat and top wax at home then do quick beachside touch ups incl combing just before a surf.

I wax my boards at home before I surf.

I like putting a good layer of base down(a little more than half a bar, almost all of it on lbs) on my boards, so I usually handle that at home before going for a session, but it's just personal preference. I feel with a good base coat, you end up with better bumps and only need to touch up with a bit of top coat(at the beach) every(other) sesh.

Your wax job looks good(really no right or wrong as long as you have good bumps going).

The pattern looks nice but the question is how does it hold up to you surfing? Take that board out and go catch some waves :) When I first started surfing I would surf for hours (6 hours is the longest I surfed) and take wax with me and re wax the board every 30 to 60 minutes. Just hop off the board in the water and quickly reapply wax. Now I only surf 30 minutes so I have no wax in my pocket.

Thanks for all the replays guys. Greatly appreciated. I used 1/2 block of Sticky Bumps base and then nearly another half top coat. I'll see how it goes this weekend. Thanks again.

I'm a cold water surfer, but like to put on a criss-cross base of Tropical (harder) wax before putting on the normal Cool water wax.

Base and first coat at home - add a layer if I get to the sport and there is ACTUALLY waves to catch...otherwise it gets wasted and goes flat and shiny!

Comb always comes in handy in case you find yourself with no fresh blocks!

Sticky bumps are the best....there is only one brand that is ever sold out at surf shops around here and that's the one.....I use the one that has the little Indonesian flag on it that they claim is formulated just for our waters.....whatever, my feet stick to the board great and the wax seems not to melt as easily out of the water like a couple of others I've tried....waxed a board that actually started to melt on the 5 min walk from the car to the beach with the board deck turned away from the sun.....not going to rag on THAT product, but will give sticky bumps props.....
