Surfing Waves

Hello all,

I currently ride a CI High 5 Fish 5'8 with ease, but I was looking for something cheap, soft and cruiser while my rib injury sorts.

I found this guy, it's a 5'10 foam fish surfboard by Greco Surfboards, never heard of them they say they are the best performance foam board makers.

What do you guys think? It's a cheap board and that's all I want for the time being so I'm keen to give this board a try..

How and what was the injury, did you get it surfing or like one of our other forumites skateboarding?

I'll bet his ribs are sore from just laying on the board which is why a foamie rather than just stopping for awhile.......anyway, why buy a board to suit the injury? Better stay out of the water and rest up rather than aggravate the injury....but if you are set on a foamie, you should get a 9' one and you can learn to go down the line while your ribs get some calluses....

Manufacturers (be it bicycles, sunglasses, etc. ) will say that to get you to buy their product. I can tell you one thing, the limiting factor for the softboard is the fins. If it has the thru the deck screws with rubber fins, the turning sucks. The soft boards that work well can fit actual FCS or Future fins. Boards from INT, FCS-Softech and Water Rampage amp stick design have boards that will use real fins.

I had one of these when i was starting!

I came straight off a 7'6 minimal to it so i can vouche for its user-friendlyness.
I had some great times on mine and a mate of mine who is a good surfer also used it on some decent head high waves.

Had a lot of rocker throughout the board, easy to catch waves and easy enough to turn on.

My only problem was that the fins were quite soft and flexy so you can feel them moving under turbulence and not super-stable at high speed but good enough for fun

I appreciate the response but I'm not going to get good out of the water. I admire the longboards but catching a bus with something that size would be a nightmare.

Yeah true, consumer nation aye it is in fact that crappy fin setup with the fin plug traveling all the way to the top of deck.

Ahh nice! Hopefully those fins aren't too much like jelly, but glad to hear that it was a fun board.

Now the pieces of your needs begins to fit, glad you survived the T bone , there used to be a Manly store a board shop where. For a smallish fee you could store your board. Buses no problem then.

Hello all,

Thought I'd post a reply as I've owned this board for about a year now, hopefully helpful/useful for you or future purchasers

Construction is quite good for a foam board, quite better than some of the other ebay foam boards Ive scene down the beach (however not as stiff as the softech or softlite brand boards)
Dimensions are accurate except the length, its basically 5'9" not 5'10".
I have used the board in waves up to about shoulder/head height and it can handle my weight on normal rides and missed/crashed take offs (haven't broken yet, I'm 5'7" 68kgs).
The stock fins Greco supplies are pretty crap as too flexible, and I replaced them immediately with some smaller stiffer plastic ones off ebay ($15 or so) which made a very noticeable better difference to the board.

Overall it's a pretty good fun and value for money board for summer and smaller conditions. Paddles onto waves very easily and quite stable (though in choppy conditions not great due to the fins). If I could buy some FCS fin plugs for foam boards I think the board's performance even better and would be up to the standard of the softech boards.

Also, the Grecosurf Aus customer service via email is quite good too!

I have the Greco 2.0 (8') and I like it. I think the price is reasonable. However, I find it tacky that Greco charges their customers for the fin hole plugs instead of including them with the board. Now if I want to switch to my single fin I need to buy the plugs.
