Are you just learning? If you have to ask then the answer is most likely not I'm afraid. Take some lessons, start on a bigger board. Surfing isn't picked up in just a week or two. My first board is an 8'4 I'm still riding it 8 months later and having the time of my life. Get something big and secondhand.

Or buy it for later when you're really really good, might be a few years though depending on your dedication/time in the water/quality of waves. Don't learn on it though unless you're 4ft tall.

There are threads in this forum for people who want to learn to surf on a shortboard. That board doesn't sound too bad for someone your size however the smaller the board the more difficult it will be to catch waves. If you allready own this board just go for it. If not then depends on how easily you are discouraged when attempting to learn something and how fit and athletic you are. I was 6' 2" and weighed 165 lbs when I learned to surf and used a 6'10" x 18" x 2.25" board. I learned just fine but I was a kneeboarder prior and super fit.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

The more "beginner" you are the bigger board you'll need. Easy rule would be 3 feet over your head. Since you about 5'7", a 8'6" be good. If you have more constraints like a small apartment or car, then 2 feet over your head will be the minimum. 7'6" funboard will be barely okay for a beginner. 6'0" No Way. But keep it for later when you skills improve.

Thx guys for the reply, i am kinda not a beginner because i have been surfing for a year but only that i don't usually can surf because at my place the season only kicks in around year end. I can stand well on a longboard, make little turns, but i am more interested on shortboard :) it looks so much fun. I think i will have to practice my longboard a little longer before i get into the shorter ones. But with my height, i can duck dive a 6 footer right?

You can duckdive a 6ft board if you can duckdive.
Duckdiving is yet another skill that takes time to master - a smaller board is easier to duckdive but it still won't do it for you.
You'll probably find me surfing, but if not, I'll probably be in the photography studio

It is still a long way to go. But at what condition, then only you can make transition to shorter boards?
