GoPro POV filming

Postby GoSurf » Wed Feb 25, 2015 10:58 pm

Hey Surfing World! How do you feel about using GoPro cameras while surfing? Do you prefer the mouth mount or the pole? I just created a mouth mount company for GoPro and wanted some feedback from some outspoken surfers. Check us out and let me know what you do or dont like about GoPro POV surfing! unecessary url removed

Answers to your questions.
1. It's OK!
2. Neither.
3. I like the images captured with POV. I don't like your mouth mount for POV videography or anything else.

I have no clue about gopros but Billie why don't you explain why you don't like the mouth mount? If it was me I would think it would interfere with my breathing but I haven't ever tried a gopro much less a mouth mount
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

I have a helmet mount on my Pro-tec helmet. I didn't want to stick any mount on my board and there wasn't any proven suction cup devices at the time. I think on the board, perspective from the back looking forward is much more interesting.

I've just been doing some research on this sort of mount, and it seems that 30% of all surfing injuries are facial.
Face plants board smacks etc, would having a mouth mount be a liability , I think so!
The guys that ride death slabs and monster waves have no fear of injury per se, so I guess a hard plastic case in front of you face or jaw , is of little consequence. Me I've just spent thousands on having my nose rebuilt after playing rugby and next month I get my first full set of teeth in my mouth for years.
A GoPro would threaten all that investment.

Helmet mount yes, chest, mouth. Baseball cap or head strap no!

BTW. Michael Schumaker's injuries to his brain have been attributed in part to the go pro mounted on his helmet he wore for skiing!

Worth a thought about your safety!
I think the GoPro is a great product, just risky in some uses
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun! 冲浪爷爷
