Pressure Ding

Postby trimalways » Sat Dec 27, 2014 4:33 am

Hi Folks,
Just got a brand new log shaped for me, and somehow got a nice little stress/pressure ding on the deck. Assuming from my heel. This thing is pretty solid, so don't know how it could happen so easily. By the looks of it, i'm not sure if it needs to be repaired or not. Dragging my fingernail it catches slightly.. Thoughts?

Yep, pressure dings hurt on brand new boards. Wax over it, pretty soon you will have another just to the left and right of that one. Personally, I have vowed to purchase white boards only as colored boards seem to show the pressure dings, scratches and everything else too easily. My white boards seem to not look damaged or beat up as much as my solid colored boards. nonethless - your pressure ding is par for course.

I get those every time I land an aerial.....just kidding I never land aerials. I wouldn't think it would be too bad to wax over it but if you have EPS foam and there is a hole your board will soak up water. A clue would be a bead of water forming there one you have the board dry and let it sit in the sun for a few minutes or heat up in a warm room. In that case you have a pin hole and need to do a repair (cut away the damaged glass and reglass the area.) Discoloration of the foam in the area might also be a clue.
So what is worse.... dying or regretting it for the rest of my life? Obviously I chose not regretting it.

People don't usually do airs on Logs. But they do knee paddle them. Did you knee paddle you board ? Also you said you just got it. How long was it between glassing and when you first took it out to surf ?

I do some knee paddling. It was probably took it out in the water a few days after it was glassed.

There is a cure time after boards are glassed, needing time. Knee ding cause you didn't allow for that.
May well happen again anyway! That's the way the log rolls
