What size Fish should I get?

Postby lachybalboa1 » Fri Dec 26, 2014 12:13 am

So after surfing for around a year on a 7'2 mini mal, I'm thinking I'm finally getting good enough to step down to a shorter board. I've been thinking the 7S Superfish from Global Surf Industries looks like a good choice:

But I can't decide what size I can handle right now. Would 6'3 be too much of a step down or would it be all good? Should I go for the 6'6 instead? Obviously I want to start doing the kind of turns that aren't possible on a mini mal and the waves at my place have super short rides so I want to get the most out of my surf as possible.

I'll definitely keep my minimal, but as for the fish any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The 6'6" if the wave is gutless and you can't surf backside.

The 6'3" if you can do backside turns on your 7'2".

Don't fall into the trap of wanted more turning ability and losing a lot of catching wave ability. Mini-mals ( and Longboards ) allow you to get out onto the face, so you can turn. Versus doing hop hop - bounce jump to stay on the wave like on a too small board.

Go with the 6'6" since you only have a year under your belt. Make the most on the 6'6' size, then move down after. 8 inches is a big jump, 11 inches is almost a foot jump. Too much in my opinion.
