nose repair?

Hi there,

I just bought my first hardboard last week (have been using a softboard for about a year). It's a second hand fiberglass board. The nose is somewhat opaque/discoloured, and I figure this is from being repaired at some point? I was just hoping someone could confirm this (or if not from repair, what is it from?).

In hindsight, I probably should have asked the store I got it from. The board works fine for what I want out of a board, I'm just curious.

Many thanks!

That is definitely a repair job. It looks like a mix of resin and micro balloons. Nothing to worry about as it looks like it has been done properly to me.

Look at it in the light sideways. If you can't see a step than it might not have been repaired. It could have been a shaped blank that fell of the rack or walked into a corner on the way to the glassing room. Seen it - done it. Brand new board with B-grade / damage discount. Better than trashing the whole board.

The first surfboard I ever bought had a defect in the foam and was discounted, only cost me $90 instead of the usual $125. At first I thought the discount was because I gave his wife and child a ride home after their car broke down. Oh well the board was absolutely great nearly perfect for me.
