Surfing Waves

Hi, cold weather is here and i wanted to make one or two trips to the ocean before the warm weather gets back because i wont be able to wait that much. I currently own a billabong oscilator 3.2 wetsuit which i dont think it will be enough for the cold around here.

Where i surf the water in winter goes from 13 - 15 degrees at the start of autumm-winter and 9-10 degrees celsius on full winter, i dont think i will be going on full winter though.

I know im not properly equipped so i just want to be able to be 1 hour at most or if its less but want to be able to go in and enjoy as much as i can.

So i was thinking about buying some booties and a shirt to use under my wetsuit as an extra layer.

The question is.. what are the best options regarding material for an undersuit shirt? what i saw so far is that there is neoprene, metalite, dryskin, polipropilene and something called spandex + polyolefin. I found there are sleeveless with hood or with long sleeves without a hood.

Does anyone has any experience with these materials, do you recommend-not recommend any of them to use under a suit for cold weather? Is it better with a hood and no sleeves or long sleeves and a separate hood when needed?

Just in case anyone was wondering the same i bought a long sleeve 1.5 mm neoprene shirt. The sleeves are actually dryskin a thin material like a shirt and all the rest neoprene with a rubber neck. I used it with my 3.2 in 13 degree celsius water and worked like a charm and never felt restricted in any way, so it made my suit a lot more useful. Of course i had a pair of 3.5mm neoprene socks too.

I hear that polypropylene undershirts like runners, cyclists etc wear are good- still warm when wet?
Anyone tried them?

I bought one of these: Billabong thermal rash vest and I find it to be great. I got one for the missus too and with a decent suit we can happily stay warm in the water for 6+ hours.

I use a sleeveless rash guard under my wetsuit when the temps get low. The long sleeve turtle neck shirt that Carbr6 linked is polyprop. Polyprop keeps you warn when wet. Germany began using it eons ago for military socks because it is warm, durable, and keeps you warm even when wet. Tody's polyprop runners' s and cyclists's shirts can be worn under your wetsuit. So, if there isn't a surf shop nearby, then maybe there is a hiking or running store.
