First Shortboard

Hey All,

I'm looking to step down from my 7' funshape to a shortboard / fish / hybrid. I have tons of fun and catch waves easily on my funshape, but have started surfing more regularly recently and would like to step down to something more maneuverable. I've been surfing once a week for a little over a year, but learn pretty quickly as I've been skateboarding and snowboarding for a long time.

I'm thinking of picking up a fairly thick (2.75") hybrid in the 6' range. Does this make sense, or does anyone have other recommendations?I live in SoCal and surf a good variety of wave types mostly in the waist - head high range, and am 6'3", 165 lbs. Looking used on Craigslist or consignment.

Any thoughts on this thing?

Thanks!

if you have the money for a new surfboard , why not ?, and yes i agree with you get a short board with plenty of volume for easy padding and catching waves like a Hypto Krypto or a Fred Rubble both are great all around surfboards , only hear good things from them and many surfers have them, i recommend watching the SurfboardShredShow best info on all type of surfboard and i mean a lot of info https://www.youtube.com/user/SurfboardShredShow and good luck on your first short board
