I am working on a school project on repairing surfboards. Just want any response to what people think about ding repair?

What are the most common problems you have when repairing your board?

Sanding problems? to much chemicals? etc...


I know that some people master the ding repair well, but I know that there are people like me ho is not that gifted. So any comment would be helpful..

Sorry billie and jaffa but im going to break a habit of a lifetime and it is friday so i'll be nice. Personally i find ding repair is easy but i do make a lot of surfboards so it would be. As i see the problem most people have is not knowing the appropriate type of repair to make or where to begin or what materials are available to them to make the repair.

One of the biggest problems I see with ding repairs, is not sanding beyond the damage area enough. You need to sand beyond the ding and get the fiberglass lower than the finished height so when adding the fiberglass cloth it can be feathered in for a solid repair. This requires sanding a much bigger area, but will help prevent your repair from cracking at the edge of the repair.

You need special tools to reasonably cut beyond the bad foam, a block of consumable foam, and tools to cut an exact match plug from the consumable foam to fit the huge hole you just made in you precious surfboard.
