Crack in the nose of my board?

Postby boom surf boom » Thu Mar 14, 2013 4:18 pm

I recently bought a second hand board, 6ft if that makes a difference. I dont remember banging the nose on anything but I was picking it up to go surfing and I noticed there was this crack on the left hand rail and the nose of the board :

I am only 13 so it's not like I can fix it myself. I wanted to know if this is something I should get a guy at the shop to fix or if I can just leave it?
Im sure the crack wasnt there when I bought it (or maybe it was much smaller and I didnt notice and now its gotten bigger). If you do think it needs fixing can you give me a rough estimate of how much money it would cost?

Thanks very much

You should be able to fix that yourself no problem. The ding repair kits sold at shops are usually around 20 dollars and come with everything you need. That ding is in a pretty easy spot to fix too, not like a ding on a hard edge.

EDIT: That looks like it goes to the foam. Definitely want to fix that asap

Why can't you fix it, why ever not?
Most shapers and modern board makers started repairing boards before they were 13.

Examine your board... If it is only paint chipped then it's only cosmetics, don't worry.

If the crack has broken the glass slightly then you can go to one of the solar resins that suits the foam of your board! Go to the surf shop, with your board, they will advise on how bad the ding is and the type of resin to use. They will also give you a quote on the repair, compare their cost and the cost of the materials to do the repair (resin tubes usually do several repairs ) figure what's best for you.
If the repair is bigger it may require resin and hardener ( but on the pictures you posted not likely).
Get with the program, learn how to repair your board, put down drop sheets and have an area where you can work a little dirty and clean up so your parents don't hassle you.
TIP: Learn to repair ding make money from your friends it will help buy new boards!

I am honestly not a fixer type person. Im a 13 year old girl, Ive been surfing for a while but only gone through 2 boards. I dont know anything about fixing boards, and i live in south africa, and ive never ever seen a ding repair kit anywhere. I'm going to the surf shop with it today, probably just gonna ask them to do it. Hopefully it wont need fixing because im seeing some 5ft sets right now and i wanna be there so bad :D

thanks for the helppp

Jaffa sunk under his presumption of gender, but not that really( but caught out anyway) I understand that some people are not fixer types, when you go to the shop get them to assess and fix it ask if they have slar resin type stuff, sets in sunlight and even a non fixer can use it! Oh and if you have only been surfing a while and are looking forward to a five foot surf you are going great guns at 13  Keep the stoke hope you board is an easy fix :D

That isn't even a ding, only the surface coat of paint/ polyester resin has been damaged. It doesn't need a repair.

If you want to neaten it then go over the area with white paint, but give it a light sand with grit 400+ paper first.

ALSO pour reallllly hot (not quite boiling) water over the area first and let dry to ensure no salt is in there: paint / resin / glue/ anything + salt = salt wins!
