Brainstorming for a surfboard

Postby Soulmancer » Fri Nov 09, 2012 4:05 am

Hello,

I am curious how you think this unique surfboard would ride; though I am finding it very difficult to find anyone that makes this type of board. I was looking for a fun board/mini mall in the 7'6 range but with a quad fin setup, perferably with a diamond tail. I'd be more interested in an epoxy board for the increased durability and reduced weight... How do you think such a board would ride and do you know anyone that makes such a board? I have found a few similar styles of boards but most of them are a bit shorter and a bit wider than what I'm looking for.

Any custom board shaper should be able to make any type of board you want. Go ask. As for the shape it sounds like a board for a big guy/learner. Why you would want a diamond tail though is curious.

Well a rounded diamond tail I suppose. To have a bit of a middle ground between a squash and a rounded tail. I weigh 185 and am 6'0 ... I'm not really aspiring to be a short boarder. I prefer long boarding but I'd like to move down to a funboard for increased manuverability and just being able to get around easier with it... Hiking with my current 8'6 to some of the less accessible surf breaks around here is a pain.

Similar to a board like this I am thinking but a bit longer and perferably a high quality epoxy board for increased durability and reduced weight.

Hi soulmancer, that shape board is going to be fine , you'd have to shop around and be prepared to cash up as most epoxy boards are made to set templates and to get something out of the range it would have to be custom.

Have a good look at all that's available in the short sweet but higher volume boards in various makers and see your local shaper .
Browse through the dumpsters and rubbles and such like there are a million ready made epoxies that fill your bill.

Found another really good example. Though this is a custom PU board it is essentially identical to the type of board I'm looking for...

His name is His name is Larry Mabile; not sure where he is located... I think I may have a custom made board designed. I was thinking something like a 7'6 x 21.5 x 3; I'm 6' and weigh about 180-185 and am basicly looking to be an advanced funboard style of surfer; not really aspiring to go shorter as I enjoy the longboard style of surfing too much... Do you think the thickness may be too much? Should I go a bit lower than 3"?
