Surfing Waves

Aloha all!

I'm moving to somewhere that has really cold water. I'm keen on getting a H-bomb and am wondering how good they are. I've done some web research and watched some video reviews etc. but it's not a complete picture.

I'm trying to figure out some kind of thickness equivalence.
i.e. a 3/2 H-bomb is equal to a x/y non H-bomb.

Does anyone have H-bomb experience?????

I'm always amazed by the names of wetsuits/ boards/ wax and all other bits and pieces of surfing comes labelled with.
groveller, dumpster, gives me a lot of mental visual puns etc which I don't use!
This one slipped through my guard.

at least something like that would warm up the water temperature a little.

Yeah... rubbing "Sexwax" all over your "Cheesestick" to get more grip than your "Far-King" tail pad so you can drop in a "H-bomb".

What other name jumbles can we come up with .

Emailed ripcurl.... Do you think I got a reply? Of course not. I'll buy one when I'm in the UK and give a report. I'll just take the punt because I can't/won't do this 5/4/3 stuff .

Saw this . This guy reckons a 3/2 on medium is ok for british winter water.



On a side note.... Ripcurl is an Aussie company, "born at bells" but marks up australia the most. The suit prices in the states and UK are almost HALF that of here. The UK is looking better and better!

Same here. Is the price they said expensive relative to wetsuits in the UK? It's almost half the price of here.

Those prices are a fair bit more expensive than regular, decent, 3/2's and 4/3's. However, they are not that far off a decent custom fitted suit. If a 3/2 is good enough for a British winter, I'd say that £379 is pretty good.

All I'd need then would be H-Bomb booties and gloves. mmmmmm.

I guess we've got your measure, but I think that's what the Hawaiians do to us, I still use imperial measurements for waves trough to crest at the point of breaking. Jack ups, Teahopou and anything over double head high I measure in increments of fear.

How come the english use metric for wetsuit thicknesses? Surely it should be sold as a 1/8" 5/64" instead of a 3/2!!!!!

Probably because the suits are designed in Australia... at a guess. We have the same but backwards thing here. What size wheels are on your car? 14", 17"? How big are the waves? 2ft? Want a subway?... sure how about a 6".
But hang on... aren't we a metric country? But no one says "check out my sick new 40cm rims", or "the waves are 1 metre." Or.. "I'm stoked with my custom quad fin 190cm".

I think the answer is that both uk and au are half-assed in there units .

one example... in all the stuff I've read about moving to the uk ive came across that the uk has seemingly half converted to the metric. I.e. they sell something like 1.13L of milk, as a hang up of the old "2 pints"" measure. So rather than using round denominations like the 1L milk in AU, they've simply converted the old measures. These things are everywhere in australia.

Im here in the UK. I have my H bomb suit and i tried it out at Devon last weekend!

Epics and weird and freaky at the same time! The suit works well. Feels exactly like an Ebomb (funnily enough). You do feel the batteries in the suit but their weight doesnt seem to affect anything.

The stretch is definitely still there and still amazing like the Ebomb.

The heating.... Strange. On the lowest of 3 settings (suit ans no boots or gloves) I was quite warm. Infact my lower back was cooking!!! I turned it off after half an hour. It's freaky because while the lower back is cooking (like you're sitting in front of the heater) my hands were still blue-ish. So it's a wierd gradient across the body. I think if i had booties it would be alot better.

It was an ok test as the water was cold-ish, there were minimal waves ao alot of sitting around in the wind. p.s. windchill is a thing of the past!!!

As soon as I had 3 waves in a row with the paddle back out i was roasting, but lukily i could just turn it off . When i turned it off, things seemed to balance out a bit better and I was warmer overall.

My hands were blue before i even got in the water so maybe it's not a 100% fair judgement. but they did eventually heat up in the water.

So it's a win for me for sure! And I am loving saying wacked out phrases like "I'll just go and charge up my wetsuit" hahaha it's never getting old .

For the price (compared with australia pricing) it's definitely worth it. Although being a ripcurl... I wonder how long it will be until it breaks

If you hands were blue but eventually heated up in the water, that sounds good to me. It will be interesting to see how it performs when the water temperature drops.

I used The Wetsuit Centre too, and got myself a H-Bomb heated rash vest, as I didn't want to fork out for the full suit.

I ended up paying £220.45 and so far, haven't had any problems with it. I've got the cheaper Quiksilver Cypher Heated Rash Vest - it's not as good as the H Bomb as it only heats your kidneys rather than the whole of your back, but you get what you pay for though - so would recommend paying the extra and going for the H Bomb.

I dont like the H Bomb, thought i was rubbish. I have owned one for a year now and reviewed the wetsuit.
