Does old fiberglass weaken?

Postby climberdude » Tue Jan 31, 2012 7:12 pm

I'm a relative newbie. I am thinking of buying a used fiberglass board but its pretty old, from around 99'. Is that a bad idea? Does fiberglass weaken over time? I've had my NSP epoxy board for a few years so I know nothing about fiberglass.

The fibreglass should be fine as long as the condition of the board is okay, so check for...
Serious dings that may have let water in.
Delaminating (where the top layer is coming away from the fibreglass).
Severe yellowing (boards do tend to go 'off white' as they age, but dark yellow or brown spots will indicate previous water damage).
