I have been surfing for a month now at a good surf school. I have stood up like 5 times now but still find it really difficult (the other 2 girls are also beginners and can stand almost everytime). I also have a hard time catchng waves. Im 5 ft 5 and 68 kg's (bit less than 11 stone). The board i use at the surf school is 8 feet long.

I want to buy a board so i can keep surfing during the week and get better. I found this 7 ft round nosed board made by Halo surfboards. Ad says its exellent for beginners. Its R1650 and comes with the Dakine bag.
What do you guys think?

If its not good, what do you guys suggest?

from what i can tell, its a neat board....
but, if you husstle to get up on a 8ft board, i dont know if 7 might be a bit to short to get on with...
it realy depends on your determination tho...
if you plan to go out a lot and realy get some practice, its realy not that bad a board for you...
before you buy it, ask if you can take it out for a session to try...
and check for dings and cracks before you put the cash on the table...

you should realy go out and try it though, if you can..
you are, like me, rather light and a too big a board can hinder you from progressing...
no sense if you cant move/turn the board once you're up on it...

it then also depends, what kinda board you used to have in the school.. was it a foamie...?

Yea, you're right. I use an 8 ft board, not a foamie. At my last lesson i used 9 ft board, i was told it'll be more stable and easier to stand of but i couldnt stand on it. I am a terrible surfer so far lol, the waves werent that great and my board didnt have much wax on it so i'll use the 9 ft again next week to see. I also fo=ind it really hard to paddle but i guess that'll get better with practise.

cool!

now go out a few more times with the board, get a feeling for popping up, standing, riding...
then might go down to an 8ft and see how that goes....

as for paddling.. thats realy a thing of practice and training.. if you are not a regular swimmer, those are muscles you dont realy use in everyday life... so its a question of time to build those muscles up... train a bit at home and go out for a 2mile paddle if there arent waves...
