Hello guys! I need your advice.
I'm from Chile and I have been trying to surf for about 2 years. I usually go 1 weekend a month. I got a 6, 4 short board on July of 2011 and I still have trouble controlling it. I'm considering changing it for a 6, 9 short board but I’m not sure.
I’m 6, 2 feet tall and 190 lb weight.
I do lots of sports, but this is my first one with a board.
Which surfboard do I need?
Thanks!

You may have gotten this already from poking around the site, but you need to go bigger. The combinatiion of not surfing regularly, being relatively new to the sport, and being a big guy, you're just not ready for the size board you're trying. You'd be much better off with a funboard, something in the 8 foot range or more. A safer bet would be a longboard, going for at least 9 feet. It'll be much easier to learn on and surf consistently. You also won't outgrow it. There's always an opportunity to longboard.
Hopefully, this gives you a start for info. Hit your local surf shop, and they can fill in the blanks.

Hello Alcercos,
Great advice from NY VikesGuy. I would say go rent a couple boards and see how you do on different sizes like a 8' funboard or a longboard. Since you already have some experience it is hard to know exactly where you are at in your surfing ability. By trying out some different shapes you can judge how you do and see what you think would be best before making another purchase. Good Luck!
