What make of board is it?

As a general rule, if your board has a stringer (the wooden bit down the middle of the board) then its PU (ie a normal fibreglass board) and if it hasn't then its an epoxy board.

There are exceptions to this rule, but probably not for the board that a beginner would be riding.

Hello,
Yes the epoxy type boards with stringers are very difficult to tell. If in doubt when repairing your board use epoxy resin and fiberglass repair kits as they will work for both. The other thing you can do is call the manufactuer and give them the serial # on the board and see if they can give you any info.

I second this. Remember that all epoxy boards (wood excluded) are made with fibreglass, so if it is a large ding you will want to put one or two layers of glass over it.
