Surfing Waves

i have a 6'9 shortboard, but the local breaks having been small lately. so thinking of getting a funboard for small waves.. saw a fun shape on craig for $275 but wonder is it too short?

i'm 5'8, 165 btw..

there is another used long board going for $250, ISLE- 7'10" x 21 3/4" x 3". Will this be better?

It's not just the length of the board. It's also the width, the thickness, and how full the outline is. Fun boards will flaot much better than a regular high performance shortboard mainly because they have a fuller wider outline. Will the 7'10" be better, It will float better than the smaller version, but will also be a much bigger board. Does the 7' board have a round nose and a full outline?

the other dimension of the 7' board is: 21" x 2.5" (custom made by a local shaper)
the 7'10 is: 21 3/4" x 3" (ISLE)

I really like 7' better, because it's shorter (so fit in my small sedan easier) and it's local shaped. But worried if it's too small for a small day.

At your size, and coming off a shortboard I lean toward the 7'0" for you. I think you will find it is more responsive, and with the fuller outline it will catch waves much better than your 6'9" shortboard. If however you are just looking for more of a longboard to catch anything when it is small then the bigger board may be a better choice. You will have to be the one makes the call.
