Soft Top Modification

Hi Guys,

I am new to these forums so apologies if this is in the wrong section! I was just wondering if anybody had any experience in removing the foam from a soft top board with the possibility of reshaping and re coating. I bought a cheap ex rental board last year and being a student cannot afford to buy a fibreglass board.
I know this sounds a little odd but i love surfing fibreglass boards but the pricetag is something I cannot afford!

Thanks in advance
Ben

You could theoretically trim it down to your size and laminate it. It would be REALLY heavy though as the foam supplies all the strength to soft tops so is a lot denser. It would probably be a bitch to shape too.

I wouldn't bother.

Thanks. Might just rip the dodgy foam and leave it at that (possibly adding gloss coat). The underneath seems solid enough.
Thanks again
Ben

But the floaty bit is the foam. Rip that off and your board will sink...

I'm curious how did this work out? I'd agree with drowning wouldn't the board just sink?
