Hi all!!
I was surfing in Lahinch on the west coast of Ireland yesterday and i was freezing, so bloody cold i decided to get out as i couldn't feel a thing and when you are that cold its just not any fun!!I have decided to splash out and get a new wetsuit and i have narrowed it down to three Billabong SG5 (I like this one as it comes with a hood and i need one anyway)the Rip Curl 5x3 F bomb its the most expensive so i wonder why?? and the O'Neill Psycho 2 5x3 my friend has one and loves it!!
If any of you guys have any knowledge you could impart I would greatly appreciate it!!
Thanks Enda

Enda: "... when you are that cold its just not any fun!!"
billie: "I disagree. It cracks me up when it is so cold that you can't feel your feet. When you try to walk once back on shore, it's like floating or something."

Enda, none of the above! Billabong and rip curl fall apart very quickly. The o'neill's are ok but expensive and don't last that well, I've found. I surf on the north coast (so colder than where you are), surf permitting about 5 times per week, and find the c-skins wired brilliant! They're durable, have enough flex, a great fit (their internet size guide is spot on too unlike some others, if you can't get one in a shop near you) and most importantly they keep you warm! I just bought a new one for under £200, seems to be loads of sales at the moment so shop around

I haven't had any of those particular wetsuits but I always find that ripcurl wetsuits are very well put together.
give them a try, see how much movement they let you do and get the most comfortable. If you end up going for the most expensive one, it'll be worth it in the long run after some quality sessions! O'Neills tend to be great too. some local surf shops do great deals if you go in and have a chat..

C skins all the way for me - got the wired 5/4 about 2 years ago had medium use and still looks brand new with all the seems still in good condition.
Just bough the wired 5/4/3 next size up in large cos av put a few pounds on he he
got a Xcel infinity - dead comfy but the seems went and now av got holes in the ass! Black witch it up
the choice is yours but make sure it is a correct fit or it wont do the job it supost to.
If you go for a chest zipper make sure it seals correctly around the neck otherwise every time you duck dive you get a cold flush

Guys...I am a lifelong surfer. The best suit right now is easily by Patagonia. Warmth, comfort, function.
If you are interested and looking for a good deal pm me.

I used to be a skeptic too...
When you compare them to the cost of a competitive high end suit its fair.
Plus - its a superior suit.
If surfing is what you do and if surfing is what you love then you cant go wrong. If you are a recreational surfer best to stick with something more economical. I will pay a few extra dollars for warmth and comfort

Hey,
Ya i surf in Lahinch quite a bit. It can get quite nippy. I would probably go with the O'neill SG8. My friend has one and he says its great. Its very cheap for a high end suit as well. If your in Lahinch again and you need a winter wettie I have rented off these guys before: http://www.lablahblah.com/rentals/ not exactly the best wetsuits but kept me warm. got boots gloves and hood as well for 5 bucks. Ya but i reckon the SG8 or possibly an alder evo.
