So I've been reading a few topics on the net about making your own surf wax and was amped to try it out. Wax here in SA is a lil expensive, considering I'm a student as well.so I've seen the common ingredients include beeswax and coconut oil. The oil for me is fine to get but we usually have to wait for beeswax. So I tried and alternative, soy wax. I used the 3:1 ratio as well and the end product looked cool but was really greasy, oily and soft. Has anyone tried soy wax as a substitute and gotten a usable wax?I don't mind water temp atm I just want to get the darn thing right.I was told by my supplier that stearic acid is generally used with soy wax to make the melting point higher, not sure if this would work. P.s I want to make my own wax as it'll work out cheaper and it'd be just cool saying I made this wax+green is the way to go.thanks in advance

I don't know much about the effects of adding soy to the mixture but the guys here have a recipe for DIY surfwax that uses 'tree resin' to help with the cold water temps. They're also very responsive, I'm sure if you posted a question about it that they'd answer.

right here there is information about making wax and making organic wax:
https://surfing-waves.com/howto/make_surf_wax.htmThe organic wax calls for bees wax which you've said is difficult to obtain. They also say there is temptation to use vegetable oil instead of coconut oil, but it doesn't work well. Soy is a vegetable and maybe that's why it won't work well.
Back in November 2007, there was a surfer on this forum that wanted to buy or make wax that did not contain bees wax. He was vegan and didn't want to use bees wax. Someone suggested using canning wax. You could use it and it always cheaper than surf wax. In fact, it was the first surf wax. here is a link for it:
