Surfing Waves

Hi im looking to switch boards from a 7 ft mini gun.. thing, its not a mini mal; the nose it too pointed, but its not a shortboard cause its not that pointed, so i dunno what to call it, its got thrusters also. But anyways ive started pumping now and im only 5 and a half ft tall so getting speed is one hell of a bummer, so was wondering if i sould be thinking about shortboard, my top turns okay my bottom turns okay too if that helps... so should i go for a shorter board to get that speed or would it be a bit too much?
