What Board for Bay Area?

Hello all, I'm moving to the Bay Area soon, and excited to start learning how to seriously surf. I've taken a few lessons in the past, and was able to ride the white water after only a half an hour of instruction. I want to buy my own board to learn on, and am confident I can get started on a shorter board, since I snowboard, am fairly athletic, fit, and have good balance. I'm considering a 7' to 7'6" funboard or midmal. I understand that wave conditions also dictate which type of board is ideal. With that said, what kinds of wave conditions can I expect to see in the Bay Area, and what types/sizes of boards should I be considering? By the way, I am 5'8" and 145 lbs. Many thanks!
