Minor ding repair question

Hi all--

I have a ding repair question. I have a crack on the rail that's really tight, but obviously not water tight. It' a single, straight crack that didn't remove any glass, just is a possible place for water to leak in. My plan is to use Solarez. Do I need to open the crack up any to give the epoxy/resin a space to fill in, or can I just slap it on top and call it a day?

Thanks!

can you post a picture of the ding? it will be easier to advise you that way.

From what you've said it doesnt sound like its gone all the way through the glass to me. try the "suck test" to see if its watertight. seal your lips over the ding and suck. if you can suck air through it then its nothe watertight and needs sealing. if not its not letting water in but keep an eye on it coz it will certainly be a bit of a weak spot.

What I did when I had a crack on my rails is put a bit of solarez on it.Then quickly stick some sellotape over it then leave it in the sun for 5 mins depends on uv then peel of sellotape. It should have left a thin coat of solarez over the crack if done proply you wont need to sand if it goes bumpy give it a light sand till its smooth.
