wetsuits in summer

I am going on a holiday to south west france (nr Biaritz) in august and intend to learn to surf. What sort of wetsuit would be best? Full length or short sleeves? Am i best renting one down there or buying one on ebay before going. Any advice, hints and tips gratefully received.

1mm Sun Hat ! - Nearly boiled my head off in a 3mm sleeveless with lycra knee flex panels !
