Pls recommend some local shapers for me (OZ)

Hey, so I have uprooted myself and moved from San Deigo to Australia. I will be finding a place to stay on the Queensland/ NSW boarder, so DBah, Superbank, Byron -ish area will be my local breaks.

I've started surfing about a year and half ago and my current level is 'trying hard to graduate from beginner level', ie, I'm very comfortable on my longboard and can noserise, trim and link turns, and started to transfer to a shorter board.

I have to leave my log behind in California because it's too big to ship, the only board I have with me right now is a quad fish.

I still want a longboard on flatter days and just because I enjoy the cruise. And maybe a shortboard more suited tot he local breaks conditions.

Pls recommend some good local shapers who shapes in the Tweed/ Byron area. Not necessary big names but someone who knows their craft and can customise boards to my needs.

Cheers!

Paul Finch (Samurai) did one of my shortboards - he's on the central coast NSW but will ship up to you I think.

Try asking your question on this Aussie forum:

Just bear in mind that whenever looking for advice on here 9/10 replies can be put-downs, especially if they spot something in your post they can wind you up with.

LOL Cheers for the heads up.

So what's with the 'put down' thing? Is it a friendly joke kind of thing or they really don't like yankee beginners?

Haha yeah. Most of it is just harmless fun but there are quite a few d1ckheads who act like if you haven't been surfing since you are 10 then you should just give up and get lost.

Since guys who have been surfing since the age of 10 don't have any questions about surfing technique, anyone asking questions about basic technique is obviously a kook and needs to be told where to go. It's OK to ask who's a good shaper etc., but don't go on there and ask how to duck dive, you won't get a proper answer. :D

Most guys are from Sydney and have seen crowds increase over the years due to tourists and migrants (like myself :D ) so they don't like to give advice to anyone who's from out of town. So it's not anti American sentiment , it's just anti 'blow ins' in general.

Trevor Hewiston aka Huie. Builds boards for Dave Rastovich and a whole stack of other big names. He's a bit north of the Goldy.

I might be able to hook you up since we talk on the phone a bit.
