Waterlogged INT Softboards

Postby Cold-water-surfer » Sun Jan 31, 2010 7:17 pm

Hi,

I've just bought 2 second hand INT softboards for the family to surf on. They are both really heavy (double the spec weight) and presumably v waterlogged. They are ex-hire and will have spent a lot of time in the water and been stored in a metal freight container. The guy at the shop told me that they will dry out if I store them standing up.

Will waterlogging damage the core? One of the boards has a couple of gashes in it which seep rusty coloured water when you press them. Is this a sign of damage? Is there a way to repair/seal the gashes on the foam? Have I been sold some lemons?

Any advice greatly received!

Thanks.

errrm, sound like Lemons at the moment :(

Water evaporates so standing the ‘board upright would not really help this !
Store them in a hot room (your lounge) all the time so any water in there is helped to evaporate.
The colour is most prob the colour trapped sea water turns when old and moldy !!!!!

I hope you didn’t pay a lot for these ‘boards and that you might still get some use out of them.

If you are still unhappy go to a local shaper and ask some advice.
You might be able to get the family a custom quiver you would all enjoy for many years to come !

yeah would have to echo "hope you didnt pay much for em"

set them in the sun and let them dry out really really good. Then seal it to make the board water tight.

Sun? What's that? :)

I only paid £60 a piece, so no major dramas.

Any advice on what to seal them with?

Will polyester resin damage the foam?
