Thermal Rash Guard or Vest?

Postby IB_Surfer » Tue Jan 05, 2010 3:27 pm

I was thinking of buying a vest and fitting it inside my wetsuit for additional warmth.

However, I pulled up the oneil site and noticed they carry thermal rash guards. Have any of you tried one or similar?

http://www.oneill.com/#/men/americac..._crew_1/black/

The one they call thermal is 8oz, the thicker ones I own are 6oz. My other rash guards, if I had to guess, seem like 2oz or 3oz by comparison.

What do you use for additional warmth under your wettie?

" What do you use for additional warmth under your wettie? "

Nothing. I have tried a few low 'tech big hype' bits and bobs and honestly found I still nearly froze to death after extended time in the surf anyway.

Also they hindred me and sometimes spoiled the session by making things to 'stiff' to have a blast.

A good session which might be extended by what, say an hour or two might be ruined by too much warm stuff IMHO.

Conclusion .....
Too Cold ? - Surf Harder !

I used to wear a 5mm Sola Titanuim wetite and got just as cold as in every other suit during a good cold (5 degC) session to be honest.

I am fortunate as i seem to have good circulation and or leather skin but when its cold enough to warrant it i have an alder hood/vest thing which is essentially a 2mm neoprene tank top with integral 3mm hood.

Best thing is because the hood is part of it you never get flush but as mentioned above it does add a bit of bulk under your suit but not too bad. I made it through my first irish winter on just a 3/2 with this underneath.

I ended up buying the sleveless hooded 0.5mm and like it but the tight neck and hood are too constricting for every day use, but sure is warm, so going to use it when it's colder than a witche's xxxxx out there.

A bud just tried the Hotlin long sleve and loves it, going to try that too http://www.hotlineonline.com/Merchan...e_Code=dhooker
