minimal/shortboard

hello there.

i have recently been toying with the idea of starting surfing for serious. i have had a few sessions with mates of mine, got up first wave on a longboard. last session i used a minimal and could get up in medium messy surf.

i have decided to get myself a board. my mates (all ride shortboards) have recommended a longboard or at least a minimal, however i'm quite keen on a shortboard. i reckon that i'll be doing a lot of surfing in the next few weeks and at least twice a week after the holidays.

i was just looking for some opinions on the above.

i have a basic idea on dimentions (i did read the faq), but i was wondering if anyone could give me some more specific advice based on personal preferences etc. i'm about 6'1", weigh about 175lbs and i'm 19 years old. dimentions for a minimal and a shortboard (if its not too much to ask ;)

also if someone could give me some idea on brands and materials.

thanks,
jono

Given your weight and that you're just starting out, the recommendation would usually be for a 7'6" - 7'9" minimal or hybrid. If you're genuinely going to be getting out a lot get a good epoxy one rather than a Bic.

just don't toy with the notion to get serious. Be serious! Hope you have the stoke.
