yet another first board question - sorry guys!

hi all, it's the usual story - had a lesson, been out with friends and now want my own board. I'm 6'2 and about 200 pounds. i seem to catch waves ok but my paddling's not too hot yet and standing up is at best a 50/50 affair! I've tried an 8'4 bic board that seems to float me ok and looks kind of indestructible which is good as plan to get wet as often as possible this winter! (3-4 times a week). is this a good choice? any thoughts greatly appreciated!

Hey there,

right seen as your a big fella stick with an 8'4, you know it floats you so stick with it, dont do what i did and but a 7'2 when i am 6 foot and 170 pounds =D its hard to learn trust me. Stick with something thats cheap (e.g Bic) untill your standing and are able to ride the waves well, then change board when you feel you have got the most out of your first board, worked for me sure other guys will agree.

hope that helps, i'm no pro but this is what i got told when i started up.

Happy Surfing
