New board

Postby mart8235 » Fri Sep 25, 2009 7:09 pm

I'm getting a board made at some point soon just want to hear your thoughts on my choice.
I'm 97kg (15st 4) and loosing weight (i was 16stone in march), i've been surfing an 8ft minimal since march, I can surf pretty well, paddle out fine, popup ok and can even manage basic turns. bassically I throw the board about as much as i can and have a ball!

OK onto the new board idea....
Bigboy flyer type of thing 7' x 20" x 2.75"
Double concave
Swallow tail possibly with wings
quad fin set up

as for rails, rocker and possibility of chanells i don't know yet.

generally the surf here is between 2 - 6ft but often choppy and not much power on the smaller stuff.

what do you think, am i on the right lines?

Sounds about right.

Interesting conundrum here though...

...not much power = low rocker, but a flat rocker doesnt cope well in chop (in my hands anyway).
Presumably it'll have a pointed shortboard nose, rather than rounded off like a fish? If so, I think I'd be compromising with a medium rocker overall, but pulling up the nose a bit.

Cheers DBBB

Nose shape I was thinking of a little fuller nose than a standard shortboard, but only a little. so yes you presume correct.

I've no idea how the difference in low or medium rocker will feel, but wont the low rocker be easier to paddle?

what do you mean by pulling up the nose a bit? is it curling the last few inches of the nose so its looks like an elfs shoe? - bad description i know but thats all i can think of!!!!
