Surfing Waves

Guys I am currently riding a Roger Cooper mini mal which is a great starting board.

I am looking for my next board and would like to know how the three closet shapers to me rank as I live in Bristol and normally surf Rest bay, Southerndown:-

Roger Cooper, Odd Surfboards and JP

Do you have any views in terms or quality of any of these ? Do you own any boards shaped by these and if so what do you think ?

I live in South Wales but I do my own Carbons (and other mixes that are seeeeecreeet) - so I don't rank anyone above me !

May I suggest you copyright the "Humble Surfboards" brand name lol

^ Good point though - in actual fact I am about to launch my own company
I have loads of tradenames and product names so I just have to decide on a trading name, and what to trademark as it all costs.
I have my insurance quotes too.

My niche is a little carbon fiber number which catches waves beautifully ! (I was shocked on the test ride last week – its' shape and the weight are awesome for my physique - a long time surfer this was a revalation to me !!!!)

I am also about to develop two other surfing ‘firsts’, I just need to keep saving the cash to experiment.

Luckily I have had my past Quality Work accredited by Lloyds of London, and to point me in the right direction if someone gets shitty with me from a business point of view (I am mellow by nature so I need to be careful of ill doers !), I have books on Torts, Civil Litigation, Copyright and The Public Interest, Contract Law and Commercial Law and have come here this evening after reading dozens of terms and conditions !

I have been really busy and spent a fair bit of my own cash !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One big plus is I shot all my publicity photos myself so I saved a packet there, although the camera was not cheap and the post processing took days in some cases !

Who know guys and gals – one day you might see my adverts here !

Now if I can just unstick myself from this chair I'll carry on building 'boards !!!!!

I'm riding a roger cooper minimal too and I'm also looking for my next board,I've been looking in the same areas as you by the looks of it.

have a chat with alby at odd surfboards, i had a chat with him before i got my minimal and he gave me quite a bit of advise considering i didn't buy anything off him!I am however going to go to him for my second board when(if) i have the money when i come back from Australia. a lot of the local guys here (porthcawl) use odd boards, so that tells you something!

RC is a good first board but not too sure if the next board will be as good as an odd board!

JP seem expensive to me.

as someone with a few good ideas in my mind butwith no guts...I really respect anyone willing to take on the gamble of debt and sole trading particularly in these times.

I just picked up my dinged rc minimal from ODD today and albi has done a great job, repaired completely after I dropped it onto one of its rails, the ODD surfboards outside hughs shop look bang on, i think it will be ODD for me, when I am ready I'll go for something like a fatboy flyer, beachbeat also do the same.

I'm also gonna be getting a fatboy flyer type of board too, i'm looking at a 7' board down from an 8' minimal, i've seen the beachbeat boards, they look pretty good and i've seen a few guys riding them too. ODD is local though and you have to supprt your local shaper!!

You surfing this saturday? long range forcast looks good, it'll be a coney day though as the winds will be westerly and strong.

Don't forget to show off your new board here when you've got it too.

Hi again (I don't mean to hijack this thread) - my trademark name and shape have been accepted and are now published for opposition .

Hopefully at the end of November I can start advertising and have a go at making the best boards possible, and maybe gazzillions of bucks !

My prototype surfboard is really surprising, a really different feel on catching a wave - almost effortless. As I have surfed well for over 15 years this is a valid statement .

I have websites up already and just last weekend did a little video showing how the board paddles through the water and how it rides on a wave - only small shories though otherwise I wouldn't be visible from the beach !

I'll advertise here through the proper channels (no pun intended) if I go with a business !
