I finallly tackled the task to fix my surfboard's nose. I had a basic idea on fixing it, but it was a tough process.

If anyone has any tips on doing a better job; I'll appreciate it. Yeah, I was unable to sand the nose correctly .


That weird dip underneath the nose was formed by the formation of Q-cell. I forgot about gravity, and it started to slide down the bottom of board, drying in some weird areas. All in all, I thought my repair was a success because this problem kept me from surfing for a while. As long as the repair is water tight, I'm happy.

Thats fine just so long as its water tight! The nose of the board isn't too important anyway. To do a better job you would need to replace some of the foam and then glass over it and by the colour of your board i would be inclined to not spend that much time on making it look good. Beaten up look is good anyway.

haha thanks for the input KS. I guess an ugly nose adds character to my board. Hmm that's funny, my board doesn't look that yellowish in real life, but in a camera shot, I'm able to tell it's getting old.

You can sand a lot of that down, make it look a lot cleaner. But there's really no point if you don't mind the look. The extra resin mix just makes it stronger really. Nice job.

few things, di you use a fibreglass cloth?
or just slap loads of resin or solarez style stuff all over it?
2 if you used cloth what oz?
3 also if you used cloth did you do an extra coat ontop?
that may not even be watertight by the looks of thing but hey.

I'm with the last post, if theres no cloth in the repair as soon as you knock it slightly it will crack and let water in as the repair won't have any tensile strength!!!! Use a lightweight filler to shape the nose back to the original shape, then glass over it with say 2 layers of 4oz cloth, should be as good as new, if slightly the wrong shade. Well thats what i would do anyway...

That really wont last long, as already mentioned you need to apply glass, and for such a repair at least two layers although personally because of the type of damage I would go with 3 layers, overlapping each one by at least an inch. The Q-cell, resin mix should be thick and be used to rebuild the nose leaving excess so it can be shaped by sanding, then you should apply the glass layers, and then finally a hot coat of resin, followed by sanding using 100 grit and then wet and dry 240, the to finish the highest grade of wet and dry you can get your hands on, I use some 2000 which means I don't have to polish and buff!
