Guys,

I've been surfing for 8 months. I've mostly been riding a 9' and a 7'6". I'd like to try a fish. Could you guys recommend the rough dimensions I should be looking for? I've no idea.

Thanks.

*DBBB dusts off soapbox, stretches a bit, clambers up on top of it*

If you mean a 'proper' fish, well, first of all, they're not such a great board for someone coming down from a learner board like a 7'6. "loose" is not your friend just yet.

But more to the point, fish dont work (in my humble :blah: :blah: ) for the heavier guy. Fish are stubby thick things, and if you need to make them long (6ft or more) for bouyancy, then they surf like floating on an airbed.

Maybe try a hybrid fish, or a superfish (6'6-7ft). They're not 'proper' fish but would probably suit you much better. Whatever you do, try one out before splashing the cash.

i was 220 lbs im down to 213 lbs cause of my surfboard i lost weight hahah.

MY surfboard is a fish 6'6x 20" x 2.75" anything around those numbers keep the height +- 2" should be fine. make sure that its thick thats the important part. Also as you loose weight because of your new love for surfing a shorter board like me, you will notice not only do you get better, but you loose weight trying to ride the thing. shorter boards take alot more paddle to go, also you can't go as far on the lineup, and you have to get up sooner cause the thing will blast through with amazing takeoff speed. but as you learn you become more and more efficent. i've seen a fatass(no offense) dude looked like 240lbs 5'10 (thas my height) riding a 2' wave with a 6'2" fish and he was skating all across the wave, looked so cool! gave me my inspiration to continue working on my skills a a fish rider for now. you will also need to scoot up more on the board. as well as learn how to stand up again, and dont EVER FORGET TO KEEP YOU BACK ARCHED! if you lay flat your board nose should sink into the water. But when you arch, it should come up. Also when you loose weight you can ride witewash with shorter boards lol. G\L
